On the 50th anniversary of the company in 1996 Walter and Friedel Hoyer established the foundation for the promotion of art and culture as well as charitable and social organizations involved in youth welfare and senior care services. By setting up the foundation the business couple fulfilled their great desire to give part of their business success back to the community. According to its charter, the purpose of the foundation is to provide financial support to the social services of churches, hospitals and children’s homes as well as music conservatories, the Hamburg State Opera and other cultural institutions. Since its establishment the foundation has provided ongoing financial support to a number of institutions that in the spirit of the foundation are making a valuable contribution to the common good.
The Friedel and Walter Hoyer Foundation will also feel obliged to uphold the foundation’s principles and ideas in the future. The Governing Board views it as the legacy of the late founder, Walter Hoyer, to carry on and expand the foundation in his spirit. In ever more difficult economic times the foundation feels a responsibility to solve social problems that government can no longer manage alone. With its work the foundation would like to make a contribution to a sustainable and humane society in which the personal responsibility of the individual takes precedence and is encouraged.
